Junior Achievement Partnering with Young Women In Bio - Connecticut to Hold Symposium on Careers in STEM
“I have a been a School Counselor in New Haven for 20+ years and this was the best, most worthwhile event I have brought my students to… I really want to give the students more knowledge of the choices in careers with both speakers, places (training programs) for the students to learn a trade or career, and experiential activities like this one.” – Educator after 2023 Symposium
On Thursday, November 20th, around 150 students from 7 schools across Connecticut will be spending the school day at Southern Connecticut State University being inspired, motivated, and empowered to consider careers in STEM. Junior Achievement of Southwest New England (JA) and Young Women In Bio (YWIB) – Connecticut will be hosting the 2nd STEM Symposium that will highlight career opportunities in the sciences & beyond!
Students from New Haven, Hamden, Madison, Terryville, Deep River, and Newington public schools will spend the morning participating in hands-on breakout sessions. The breakout sessions will be run by Pratt & Whitney, Yale New Haven Hospital, Regional Water Authority, Medtronic, Biotechne, Halda, and Southern Connecticut State University. Students will watch a video montage Young Women In Bio – Connecticut and TellMed have put together with women in STEM answering questions about why they love STEM, where they found career inspiration from, and offering advice to the students. The day will finish with a moderated discussion with panelists from Yale Ventures, Prudential, and Southern Connecticut State University.
The JA & YWIB STEM Symposium will be held at the Adanti Student Center at Southern Connecticut State University. The program will begin at 9:30 AM with welcome and finish at 1:15 PM.
