JA Students Meet Warren Buffett
A group of Junior Achievement students had the opportunity to spend time Thursday night with one of America’s greatest investors – Warren Buffett.
Mr. Buffett was on hand to celebrate the opening in New Haven, Conn., of the newest Jordan’s Furniture store, a company owned by Mr. Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Co.
Jordan’s Furniture is known for combining entertainment with retail, and its first Connecticut location is no exception. The New Haven site features the incredible “IT” Adventure Indoor Ropes Course, the world’s largest indoor adventure ropes course.
The man behind the Jordan’s Furniture brand, Eliot Tatelman, was specifically looking for students from across CT to try out IT and the group of 150 Junior Achievement students from Connecticut schools were eager to answer the call. “Adults, kids, families…everyone will want to see IT, climb IT, and ride IT! You won't believe IT! Just don’t miss IT!” Tatelman said.
In addition, a number of the students got to spend some time privately with Mr. Buffett, who has been a longtime supporter of JA, and an advocate for JA's mission.
“JA is focused on the principle that volunteers from business and the community can help prepare young people to be successful in the global economy,” said Lou Golden, president of Junior Achievement of Southwest New England. “What a remarkable opportunity for these Connecticut students to gain inspiration from Mr. Buffett. We are grateful to him and Jordan’s Furniture for making this possible.”
