On June 17, Junior Achievement of Southwest New England (JASWNE) concluded a remarkable fiscal year with its Annual Board Meeting, celebrating student success, recognizing board leadership, and shining a special spotlight on our 2025 Scholarship recipients.

JA of Southwest New England is proud to offer three scholarship opportunities each year for high school seniors who have participated in JA programs and have shown outstanding leadership potential in their school and community involvement. All three scholarships are one-time $2,000 awards, paid directly to the college or university the student will attend.

This year, a record 15 applications were submitted in our largest applicant pool ever! From this impressive group, three exceptional students stood out and received the following scholarships:

Dev G., Farmington High School- Karl Flemke Memorial Scholarship

  • Named in honor of former JA USA President Karl Flemke, this scholarship recognizes a senior who has participated in both varsity athletics and JA programming, demonstrating exceptional leadership, teamwork, and academic achievement.

Jasmin C., Crosby High School - JA of Southwest New England Scholarship

  • This scholarship is awarded to a senior who has actively participated in JA programs, while showing outstanding leadership, teamwork, and academic achievement.

Pedro P., Crosby High School - Elaine Dwyer Scholarship

  • Named for longtime JA Chief Administrative Officer Elaine Dwyer, who devoted 40 years to JA and was herself a JA Company Program participant, this scholarship honors a senior who has taken part in the JA Company Program (including JA Entrepreneurial Academy) and demonstrated exceptional leadership, teamwork, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Many thanks to Joshua Kelly, Senior Education Manager at JASWNE, and Wendy Simoncelli, Board Member and Client Executive at IBM, along with the entire Scholarship Committee, for their thoughtful work in selecting this year’s recipients. We are excited to see what Jasmin, Pedro, and Dev will achieve as they begin their college journeys and beyond!

The evening closed with refreshments and conversations among students, board members and staff in a celebratory conclusion to an outstanding school and fiscal year. As we move into FY26, JASWNE remains committed to equipping even more students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to own their futures. With the continued support of our board, partners, and community, the best is yet to come!
