Junior Achievement partners with the New Haven Manufacturing Association to introduce manufacturing careers to students
New Haven, CT – On October 26, roughly 90 fifth and sixth grade students from Lincoln Bassett Community School will come to Albertus Magnus College to participate in an exciting, hands-on
Junior Achievement initiative. In partnership with the New Haven Manufacturing Association (NHMA), Junior Achievement of Southwest New England (JA) will introduce a new Middle Grades Conference to its annual programming. Using portions of the JA Our Region curriculum, students will explore Connecticut’s natural resources to better understand the State’s rich manufacturing history.
According to the National Association of Manufacturers, Connecticut is home to over 4,000 manufacturing companies, which employ almost 160,000 individuals across the state. Educating students early about the multitude of opportunities available in such an important industry will prove pivotal when so many career opportunities will soon be available across the manufacturing spectrum. Students will also have the opportunity to hear from a panel of manufacturing leaders from the NHMA to learn about a variety of companies doing business in Connecticut and what types of products are produced locally. In breakout sessions, students will learn best practices in starting an entrepreneurial venture and will participate in activities intended to help young people better understand the manufacturing process.
