Junior Achievement of Southwest New England is thrilled to be piloting the JA Stock Market Challenge this year, the only program of its kind in our area. The Stock Market Challenge brings students in grades 9-12 from across Connecticut together for weeks of curriculum on all-things stocks, culminating in a one-of-a-kind stock market simulation experience. In preparation for the challenge, students will complete five sessions of JA Take Stock in Your Future, where they will learn to buy and sell stocks, create a portfolio, assess investment risk, and more.
Students will put their knowledge to the test during a simulated stock market challenge on Tuesday, March 12th at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. Each team will be issued $1,000,000 to buy mock stock in 30 fictitious companies. Once the opening bell is rung, the market opens, and teams immediately begin competing for the largest portfolio. Every 60 seconds is a new trading day, with event screens for teams to track daily trends, hot tips, press releases and relevant news. The simulation mirrors the volatile market, challenging the teams to make quick decisions informed by weeks of JA Take Stock in Your Future curriculum.
